Carl Miller

Carl Miller is an adjunct associate professor in UMIACS and a mathematician in the Computer Security Division at NIST. He is also a Fellow in the Joint Center for Quantum Information and Computer Science (QuICS)

Miller works on quantum information processing, a field where a number of different disciplines and styles of thinking converge. His particular focus is on quantum cryptography, where proving the security of new protocols often involves some creative and interesting mathematics.

Miller is interested more generally in applications of higher mathematics to theoretical computer science.

He received his doctorate in mathematics from UC, Berkeley in 2007. Before coming to UMD, Miller was a research fellow in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at the University of Michigan.
