Biography: 

Haizhao Yang is an associate professor in the Department of Mathematics. He also holds an affiliate appointment in the Department of Computer Science.

His research covers a broad range of topics bridging machine learning and scientific computing to create intelligent computing. Some of Yang's current work includes symbolic machine learning for interpretable AI, randomized algorithms for scientific computing and data science, and machine learning-based solvers for partial differential equations and inverse problems.

He is the recipient of an NSF CAREER Award and an ONR Young Investigator award.

Before coming to UMD, Yang was an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics at Purdue University.

He received his doctorate in computer science from Stanford University in 2015.
